VWA Proud to be Invited to Join the Better Volunteering Better Care Network

Date Posted: 29/05/2016

Our huge thanks to Anna McKeon and the team at Better Volunteering, Better Care for inviting VWA to become a member of this valuable & exciting professional network of ethical volunteering actors.

Better Volunteering Better Care, formed in association with Save the Children UK, is a collaboration of industry experts and organisations focused on promoting and advocating best-practice ethical volunteering in relation to vulnerable children.

Specifically, the group aims to challenge the many difficulties associated with the practice of Orphanage Volunteering, or the exploitation - well meaning or otherwise - of vulnerable children in residential homes that seek commercial engagement from international volunteers.
VWA has written extensively on this subject and has remained an advocate of supporting orphaned children through alternative means than volunteer engagement. We do not participate in 'orphanage volunteering' and do not allow our volunteers to work within the orphanages we support. So we are proud and pleased to have been invited to become a member to the Better Volunteering Better Care network and we look forward to working alongside the network's other illustrious industry experts and commentators to help prevent unnecessary harm to vulnerable children.
