Boo's First Days in Ghana

Read about Boo's first few days in Ghana

'Hello how are you? I am fine thank you how are you? I am fine also'. I soon learnt that this is the standard greeting of all Ghanaian's!

On our first day we went on a tour of the local area; my first impressions of the people are that they are energetic and welcoming. Kokrobite is the closest town to the house with its bustling taxi rank and many little shops and stalls. The local health clinic is very different to ones in England, the lady there asked us to say hello to Queen Elizabeth! A trip in a taxi and a few tro tro's were interesting and fun experiences and I got to see quite a lot of the local area. We went to the mall, a shiny and clean shopping centre where no one actually seems to buy anything, it is a world away from the dust and makeshift houses we left behind in Kokrobite.

The next two days were spent in the PWA daycare & nursey centre, the children are crazy, full of beans and they all wanted lots of attention and cuddles. They are so lively and full of energy; I am like a human climbing frame! A visit to Oshieye the village where the children are from showed us how important the work Partner West Africa do with the children is.  We also paid a visit to a local school, where we spent some time with one of the classes; the teachers here are much stricter than the teachers in the UK and the children were very respectful.

We have lots of plans for the next few days and I can't wait to experience more of Ghanaian life and culture.
