Amazing Arts and Crafts Week at VWA Nursery and Daycare Centre

Date Posted: 15/07/2016

Check out the crafty superpowers of two of our volunteers, they've worked their magic all week helping the staff and children at the PWA Nursery and Daycare Centre get creative.

Usually Friday's are arts and crafts days at the Partner West Africa (PWA) Nursery and Daycare Centre, but for two volunteers, Penny and Debbie, with crafty superpowers a single morning just wasn't enough. This week has been full to bursting with all things creative; the children were let loose with as much paint, crayons, glue and stickers as their little hands could hold, and with Penny and Debbie's expert help created an amazing array of extra special personalised Thank You cards and Christmas cards for all the incredible people who donate, raise money, sponsor, volunteer or help out in some way. Creating these cards has been no mean feat, Debbie has patiently scoured the bushes in the PWA compound searching for a bird she had seen one day that looked similar to our familiar Christmas Robin, after a few days she was in luck, she eventually identified it as the Yellow-Crowned Gonoleck and it now sits immortalised in hand printed splendour on more than 30 Christmas cards!

As well as cards the children and teachers have made hats, loom band bracelets, flags, paper plate decorations and masks, fans, lanterns, dream catchers, snake shaped paper chains and pressed Ghanaian flowers, it's been a busy week but the children have loved walking home proudly showing off their creations.

Each person who joins the PWA family is unique and PWA place huge importance on their special talents and skills and make sure that these are passed on to their brilliant nursery staff.  When Penny and Debbie's time with us ends and they head home to England, our teachers Small Lizzy, Connie and Big Lizzy are all set to continue their good work with the children...their crafty superpowers live on!

If you would like to support PWA's work by donating, fund raising or sponsoring a place at the nursery visit our webpage here, or if you've been inspired by the work Penny and Debbie have done have a look at the placements PWA offer here through their internal volunteering department Volunteer West Africa.
