There was an article written in the media recently about the difficulties faced by graduates wishing to break into the working world of international development and aid work. The issue of needing experience before getting a paid job is a frustrating but not unusual scenario for many graduates.

However, for graduates of International Development, a work experience placement with Partner West Africa (PWA) could offer that all important foot in the door. We offer volunteer placements at our busy NGO in Ghana, West Africa, but what sets us apart from mainstream volunteering is that we treat each application individually and design a unique volunteer placement that allows you to offer the very best of what you are able to, while addressing the most urgent needs of the community. We believe our volunteer placements are better described as work experience placements as you are integrated in to the team, with a job description and a defined role and responsibilities; working with us allows you to learn about ethical development approaches, NGO work and working the challenging development context as well as getting the all-important practical hands-on experience that many graduate employers expect. Depending on your skills and interests you can be involved in projects starting from the initial needs assessment right through to final monitoring and evaluation and everything in between.

All of our projects are programmes and supported by donations from friends and supporters so while our volunteer placements are free, we do ask that you pay your food and accommodation costs; this means that the funds donated by our friends and supporters are spent directly on the NGO rather than subsidising the costs incurred by hosting volunteers.

See our website for more information on the projects and programmes that you can get involved in. We look forward to welcoming you to our team.
