Presenting our newest partner school on the International Schools Partnership Programme: House of Grace. Welcome to the PWA family!

Partner West Africa’s ‘International Schools Partnership Programme’ (ISPP) aims to partner schools from Ghana and the international community to encourage learning and cultural exchange between students, helping them explore the differences and similarities between their lives and countries, unpick prejudices and encourage responsible global citizenship.

House of Grace School is comprised of approximately 80 students and is specifically for deaf and hearing-impaired children. A committee of 12 students, of a mix of ages, were chosen to represent the school; their first task was to teach the PWA team some basic sign language so that they would be able to communicate better with them. This was a lot of fun, and the students were all very patient, enthusiastic, and willing to help everyone.

Being a new partner, House of Grace doesn’t, yet, have an international partner school, but PWA are working to find a well-suited school to pair them with. The purpose of this summer’s work was to gather information about the school and the students to introduce House of Grace to potential partner schools. This was done by creating a brochure which included information about the school, collected by asking the head teacher questions such as when the school first started, the inspiration behind the school, and how it has expanded. It also included a bio written by each student, including their name, age, a photograph of them, and some information about their favourite things, who they live with, and what they want to do when they grow up. The students also created a timeline of their daily routine with photographs, drawn pictures, and writing conveying aspects of their daily lives such as what time they wake up, what they eat throughout the day, chores, school lessons, and what they do for fun (see pictures). The children enjoyed these activities, and were always excited to get started, we’re pretty sure the PWA volunteers were excited to help with the activities too.

Now it’s up to PWA to find a great partner school for the students at House of Grace to get to know! Watch this space…
