Toothbrush, Toothbrush - an Oral Health Workshop

Date Posted: 17/07/2018

Toothbrush, toothbrush; Two minutes with my toothbrush; Now lets see how you use your toothbrush

“Toothbrush, toothbrush

Two minutes with my toothbrush

Now let’s see how you use your toothbrush!”

These are the words to the very simple (yet entertaining) song that we taught to the children at Divine Home school. Today we carried out a series of workshops to talk to school children about the importance of oral health. The workshops consisted of interactive lessons where we explained some key information about oral health, including the proper way to brush teeth and the types of foods that are good and bad for teeth.

The children, aged 2 to 7, received a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste to take home. They were then able to go outside and practice their teeth-brushing skills, all to the beat of the toothbrush song. It was a little messy, but certainly very fun. They were especially grateful for the donated toothbrushes and toothpaste. Similarly, the teachers at Divine Home were extremely welcoming and grateful for the visit. They assured us that their workshop was useful and helpful. Whether it be due to a lack of resources, or to the parents’ lack of time in the mornings, they said that many of the students at the school have poor oral health habits.

It was very rewarding for us to see the positive impact that these kinds of donations can make. Running the workshops was also a chance for us to interact with the community, as well as to witness the energy and kindness from the teachers and students. Hopefully, the visit to Divine Home will be one of many successful initiatives this summer.
