Volunteer West Africa, working in collaboration with the Ghana National Health Board, today delivered a free health-screening, immunization and hygiene clinic for the children of the Oshieye Community in Ghana West Africa.

72 children, along with their mothers and/or fathers, attended the event which was hosted at the VWA offices and guest house compound in Kokrobite, Ghana. Members of the Oshieye Community were invited to bring their children to receive a range of health and nutrition services and support.

Volunteer West Africa team members and volunteers worked alongside Ghana National Health Board nurses to deliver Polio, Yellow Fever and other essential vaccinations as well as Malaria screening tests and specialized care for children with special health support needs. Those children who tested positive for conditions such as Malaria will now have their treatment paid for and delivered locally by the Volunteer West Africa team.

Every child and family that attended the event also received a free VWA children's health & nutrition pack containing a range of medicines, vitamins, nutritional supplements, soaps/cleaning products, and tooth-brushes and tooth-paste. Parents and children were given guidance by the Volunteer West Africa team on how to maintain a healthy and hygienic life-style and the health condition of each child was assessed to form part of an ongoing VWA and Ghana Health Board monitoring programme.

Traditional Elders and community leaders attended the event to offer their thanks and support to Volunteer West Africa and to encourage parents and children to participate in all the activities. Turn out was greater than expected and the day was considered a huge success as part of VWA's ongoing commitment to ensure underprivileged local children are fit and able and financially empowered to access education.

Volunteer West Africa would like to extend its thanks to the donors who contributed towards the costs of organizing the event, the Ghana Health Board for their cooperation and support, and Mama Felicia and her team for their huge support to coordinate and deliver the event.
