Arkaah is 8 years old and lives with his Mother, Father & three siblings in a 10ft by 8ft room in a small village in West Africa. Arkaah has never been to school. Instead, Arkaah earns $10 a week working on a local fishing boat. The work is hard, dangerous, and illegal.

Around 12 months ago Arkaah was involved in an accident while working on the fishing boat. He suffered a serious injury to his right knee and has spent the last year unable to walk, in extreme pain, and suffering from complications that include infection, severe malnutrition, Malaria, fever, and chest infection. He cannot afford to see a Doctor or receive any medical care.

Arkaah was found by the Volunteer West Africa team yesterday afternoon. He was unable to speak or quell his severe shaking. Thanks to Volunteer West Africa, Arkaah has today been referred to the National Children's Hospital for treatment and he will have his full care and medical needs provided for by our charity.

But what happens next?

The VWA and PWA team are urgently appealing for any individual or family who would be prepared to sponsor Arkaah by pledging $70 USD per month. This money will be used to secure Arkaah a place in a Volunteer West Africa partner school where he will receive a good education; the money will provide Arkaah with access to clean drinking water and a nutritious diet; the money will cover the cost of child's health insurance; new clothes and school uniforms; regular reviews and assessments from the Volunteer West Africa team; and - most importantly - the money will prevent one little boy, Arkaah, from further suffering.
