VWA Donates $1,000 of Classroom Equipment within its Schools Partnership Programme

Date Posted: 18/07/2014
This week saw St Peters School benefit from donations made through the Volunteer West Africa 'Schools Partnership Programme' for Ghana's Central Region.
As part of VWA's Schools Partnership Programme, operated in conjunction with our sister organisation Partner West Africa, VWA team members, guests and volunteers this week visited St Peter's School in Opeikuma, Ghana.

The VWA team, including 10 school students who had travelled to West Africa all the way from the UK to participate in a ten day cultural exchange and education programme hosted by Volunteer West Africa, were welcomed by St Peters School in a day of learning, fun and celebrations.

As a VWA Partner School, St Peters enjoys year round access to VWA's diverse programme of educational workshops and development activities and - through regular VWA needs assessments - the VWA team closely monitors the changing support needs of the school. From finacially sponsoring a number of St Peter's students to attend the school, to delivering extra-curricular lessons and activities at the school, to donating St Peter's first ever range of ITC equipment, the VWA team is on-hand year round to ensure the students of St Peters receive the highest quality standard of education possible.

As part of this process, the VWA team recently identified a need for new classroom white boards at the school. With a dozen classrooms using chalk blackboards that were a decade old and falling apart, the teachers were struggling to teach effectively and the student's education was being affected. As a result, Volunteer West Africa's Project Manager, Inusah Amidu, was pleased to make use of this week's visit to present a range of brand new, high quality white boards that VWA had had custom made for St Peters school.

By the end of the day every classroom at the school was equipped with a new white board along with hundreds of assorted marker pens. With a combined value of over $1,000, VWA and PWA would - as always - like to thank all our supporters, donors and volunteers... without your continued support our work in West Africa would not be possible!
