Latest PTA Meeting a Success...

Date Posted: 11/06/2015
Today the VWA team held a Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Meeting for the parents of the children who attend our nursery & daycare centre; this is something that happens twice every term providing the opportunity for teachers, pupils, parents, VWA staff and volunteers to come together to share information, ideas, ask questions and generally ensure all stakeholders feel a sense of ownership and investment in the children?s education and wellbeing and of course the future and direction of the centre.

The day commenced with an introduction from Inusah Amidu (Volunteer West Africa's Project Manager) who provided a brief overview of the improvements that have occurred at the centre since the previous PTA meeting, reiterating - in particular - the importance of each child?s attendance regardless of the currently ?challenging? rainy season. Then, in turn, each teacher gave an update of their respected students performance and progress, informing parents of each class?s developments, successes, failures and future objectives.

In celebration of the staggering progress made by many of the children - particularly those whose attendance at the centre marks their first ever attendance at school - the Volunteer West Africa nursery students were given the opportunity to showcase their individual developments; including reading, reciting, public speaking, English language, singing and dancing ? it was evident this was enjoyed by all! Parents, staff and of course the children can all be incredibly proud of their achievements!

The day concluded with VWA volunteer, Abi, providing each child with a selection of new clothing and shoes, kindly donated by her friends and family in the UK, and in order to help our little ones weather out the rainy season when at home in the very difficult circumstances in which most of them live. Many of the children were keen to try on their new outfits and, ta-da, a makeshift fashion show was born!

Volunteer West Africa would like to say a huge thank you to all our staff, volunteers, donors, sponsors and the community leaders ad chiefs who attended the event and who tirelessly help promote VWA and the services we offer within the local communities.

Thank you!
