To anyone who is thinking about undertaking a volunteering project of any kind in a country where its poorest people so desperately need support in gaining access to even the most basic of needs such as food, education and health care; what I would say is that, the warmth, love and support I received from my involvement with Partner West Africa was like being part of an extended family whom I miss very much and hope to return to again soon. I have nothing but respect for the guiding ethos and principles that underpin the work they do whilst the spirit and lust for life that the Ghanaian people have is both inspirational and humbling.

"At the time of writing I returned from Ghana nearly four months ago and there hasn't been a day since when I haven't thought about one moment or another from my time there. A memory, feeling or sensation will suddenly flash by and I am immediately transported back in my mind to one of the most amazing places I have ever visited.

Yet, in spite of finding the trip profoundly moving and fully championing the work that Partner West Africa (PWA)have embarked upon, finding the right words to sum up my time in Ghana, as a tool to encourage others to become involved have eluded me. I have felt that somehow my words do not do justice to or precisely articulate all that it has meant to me and say what I wish to express. You simply have to experience it for yourself.

To anyone, however, who is thinking about undertaking a volunteering project of any kind in a country where its poorest people so desperately need support in gaining access to even the most basic of needs such as food, education and health care; what I would say is that, the warmth, love and support I received from my involvement with Partner West Africa was like being part of an extended family whom I miss very much and hope to return to again soon. I have nothing but respect for the guiding ethos and principles that underpin the work they do whilst the spirit and lust for life that the Ghanaian people have is both inspirational and humbling.

For those new to Sub Saharan Africa and all the anxieties that that can bring you need not worry as the volunteer accommodation in Kokrobite, Africa, is safely and securely situated and you will receive a thorough volunteer induction to fully prepare you so you can confidently engage in Ghanaian life and volunteer placement.

Once you begin to meet some of the children who are benefiting from the volunteering work that you are doing with them and they look up at you with their big smiles and hear the laughter motivated by nothing more than curiosity and pure joy at interacting with you you will wonder why you ever questioned whether or not you should volunteer in Ghana and whether or not there was anything worthwhile you could do here! There is - and plenty of it!

Nicola"
