Cultural exchange trips for schools, colleges, youth groups and more

I am really glad that I done this trip and it’s something I would love to do again or be able to stay longer. It will be something I will always remember and a lifetime opportunity.

Kat volunteered with Partner West Africa (PWA) on a cultural exchange trip in partnership with the ‘Pioneer’s Project’ in the UK. The focus of group trips for young people are different to PWA’s individual volunteer opportunities; while the trip is still tailored to the groups individual needs and skills, the overarching aim is to give young people a first-hand experience of life in a country different to their own, helping to unpick prejudice, break down cultural barriers, promote understanding and empathy, and to encourage young people to become responsible global citizens.

"I really love the area [the village of Kokrobite where the PWA guesthouse is situated] and it’s made me feel safe where we are. The community is so welcoming and have helped us while being here. The view and the beach being so close is the best part. [The culture is] very different to ours but everyone is more than happy to show you their ways of life.

Being here [at the PWA guest house] has helped me feel a lot safer and stopped me from worrying. When I showed my parents on facetime it stopped them from worrying about me being here. I was able to relax and feel comfortable while being here. The dogs were a big comfort as well and made me feel safe. They [the PWA team] have made us feel so welcome and made it feel like this is our home as well.

I really enjoyed everything that we have done since being here. I may not have wanted to do something at first but I’m really glad I done everything or I would have regretted it.

I wouldn’t say there is much or anything to be improved on as I enjoyed everything overall. Everything is really flexible and is how the group wants it. Only thing is there is slight confusion when things are changed.

I am really glad that I done this trip and it’s something I would love to do again or be able to stay longer. It will be something I will always remember and a lifetime opportunity."
