Living in Ghana has been an interesting experience. I’ve loved learning about the Ghanaian way of life, especially the food.

Living in Ghana has been an interesting experience. I’ve loved learning about the Ghanaian way of life, especially the food. Red-red is my favourite and the PWA cook, Naa, is brilliant! It’s been wonderful living and spending time with the local staff, who have been overwhelmingly welcoming.

Learning about attitudes towards women here has been particularly fascinating [Amy spent some of her time working on the Gender Equality programme], as although it is still a largely patriarchal society there are little glimmers of attitudes changing and lots of inspirational women showing that they can step up and perform as well (if not better!) as the men.  I’m excited to see how women’s rights continue to develop in Ghana with so many incredible women leading the way.

One of my personal highlights has been visiting the Volta region. It’s so different from the coastal areas, it almost feels like a different country and just goes to show how diverse Ghana is. I’d recommend heading to Volta for anyone who’s heading here!
